Project breakdown
O.t.h.e.r.s.
O.T.H.E.R.S. consists of 20 advanced flying UAV’s designed, prototyped, and constructed by Studio Hock. The project utilizes chrome spherical aerial vehicles engineered for controlled flight and reflective performance, using motion and sunlight to create dynamic visual effects in the sky.
Earth gate
Earth Gate is a ground-based perimeter structure that defines and protects the drone launch and landing area. It functions as a controlled threshold to safeguard flight operations and equipment, while remaining simple, durable, and suitable for playa conditions.
Visual Synthesis
Visual Synthesis is a data-driven sculpture that translates real-time inputs from the surrounding environment, the movement of the O.T.H.E.R.S., and motion capture data from participants into evolving visual forms. It allows people to interact directly with the system, generating continuously shifting visual patterns.
Hyperseed
Hyperseed necklaces are small wearable artifacts gifted to participants. Each necklace offers the option to write and carry a personal intention or hyperstition, serving as a physical reminder of reflection, authorship, and future-oriented thinking.
The Seers
The Seers are members of the team who embody a theatrical, performative presence within the installation. Dressed in a unified wardrobe, they serve as human anchors for the experience, maintaining awareness, guiding tone, and reinforcing the ritual and narrative context of the work through quiet presence rather than instruction.
